An attempt to explain our managment strategy; to produce trophy quality whitetail deer hunts in a fair chase environment:

--The ability to control hunting pressure on promising 2.5yr - 4.5yr old deer.

We like to havest Trophy deer(10 point frame or larger) at 5.5yrs of age and older. Classic 8pt plus hunts from 3.5yrs of age or older bucks.

--Maintain a deer density that does not destroy the native habitat.

--Supplement feed when we are unlucky in receiving addequate rainfall.

Why do we have the deer we have? We havest only 20% of our buck herd(5% trophies and 15% 8pt plus bucks) and attempt a doe harvest trying to keep a deer to 15 acres density. Our management data numbers come from helicopter survey, ground observations, and trail type cameras. We look at our management data from year to year and use it to make a plan and then stick to it. This is all trend type data there are no exact pervect numbers here.
